Bike to Work Week - May 14th to 18th, 2012

Bike to Work Week is an exciting and fun event which promotes cycling as a form of transportation. It celebrates those who bicycle commute throughout the year and supports an environmentally friendly transportation option and promotes clean air.

Bike to WorkCommute Connection is hosting many events along with local businesses, sponsors and jurisdictions. Commute Connection will have several drawings with prizes totaling more than $2,500, including six $250 REI gift cards, three "Commuter Baskets" valued at $250 each and many more prizes and give-away items. Pledge to bike or walk to work by completing a Bike to Work Registration Form to be eligible for the drawings.

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY:

  • Saturday, May 5th Bike Swap Meet and 32 Mile Ride 10:00 am
    Lodi Bicycle Cafe, 601 W Kettleman Lane. Click HERE for additional information.

  • Sunday, May 6th Gowan and Goodwin's Punk Rock Swap and Flea Market 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm.  At Plea for Peace, 630 E Weber, Stockton. Featuring bike stations. Click HERE for additional information.

  • Saturday, May 12th Tracy Transportation Fair - 10am to 3pm
    The Tracy Transportation Commission will hold it's first Transportation Fair highlighting alternative transportation at the Tracy Transit Station, 145 W. 10th Street.  For additional information click HERE.

  • Wednesday, May 16th Stockton Bike to Work Day 6:30am - 9:00 am Join Mayor Ann Johnston and bike to the City of Stockton Bike Rally. Starting location at 6:30 am at David's Pizza, 1744 W. Hammer Lane and ending at the Janet Leigh Plaza, 222 N. El Dorado St. Click HERE for route map.

  • Saturday, June 23rd The Mayor's Hike and Bike event 8:45am - 11:30am
    At UOP De Rosa University Center - Registration from 7 am to 8:45am. Bringing the community together to celebrate health and promote active lifestyles. Proceeds benefit the Emergency Food Bank and Catholic Charities.
    A Get Fit Health Fair will be offered from 8:45 to 11:30.

STANISLAUS COUNTY:

  • Thursday, May 17th Modesto Bike to Work Day - 6:30 am - 8:30 am 1010 Tenth Street Plaza. Click HERE for flyer.
  • Saturday, May 19th Modesto Family Bicycle Event - 10am - 3pm

MERCED COUNTY:

  • Friday, May 18th Bike to Work Day and Bike to School Day in Merced.

  • Using a bicycle to commute 4 days a week for 4 miles (one-way) saves 54 gallons of gas annually.
  • Seven to twelve bicycles can park in one automobile parking space.
  • It costs about $50 to build and maintain one space in a bike rack and $500 for a bike locker, yet one car parking space in a parking structure costs about $8,500.
  • Bike-to-Work Week is celebrated every May.
