BART OPENS NEW
WEST DUBLIN/ PLEASANTON
PARKING GARAGE
BART opened the new West Dublin/Pleasanton station on Saturday, February
19th. BART's 44th station in the Bay Area Rapid Transit system, and the
first to open since the San Francisco International Airport extension in
2003.
The opening of BART’s 44th station added 1,200 new parking spots to the
system, more racks for bicyclists and eventually a transit village where
people who prefer not to own a vehicle will be able to live, work,
commute, shop and play all within walking distance of BART.
BART expects to serve an average of 4,300 riders from this station each
weekday this year and to see ridership grow over time. With amenities
such as Reserved Parking permits available for the two garages and
connections to Livermore Amador Valley Transportation Authority (LAVTA)
buses, the station provides a new and convenient option for choosing
public transportation. Expected is reduced traffic congestion and better
access to downtown Dublin and to Pleasanton’s Stoneridge area.
One round trip on BART prevents 22.6 pounds of carbon dioxide from
entering the atmosphere, the station’s 4,300 average daily riders will
combine to prevent 97,180 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each day. To

SPINNING INTO SPRING WITH
BIKE TO WORK WEEK
|
|
This exciting and fun event will be held May 16th -20th this year. Bike
to Work Week promotes cycling as a form of transportation
to the workplace. It celebrates those who
bicycle commute throughout the year,
and supports an environmentally friendly
transportation option and also promotes clean air.
Bicycling is one of the least expensive ways to get
to work. More than half of all Americans live less than five miles from
where they work. According to the Research and Innovative Technology
Administration Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the average cost of
owning and operating an automobile per year is $8,487*. The cost of
running a bike for a year is less than $300. Commute Connection is
currently working on details for events, drawings and more, so stay
tuned! If you
are an employer and would like information on how to put together an
event, including flyers, registration sheets and more contact Anne
Poggio at: poggio@sjcog.org.
*The average cost of operating a vehicle 15,000 miles per year in stop
and go conditions.
