RIDESHARE WEEK
OCTOBER 5TH - 9TH |
Rideshare Week is October 5th - 9th, 2009. Commute
Connection in conjunction with several local employers, encourages
everyone to spare the air and share the ride. With the cost of gas
creeping up once again, it's the perfect time to start a new carpool,
vanpool or use transit. Commute
Connection is
sponsoring a great drawing this year. Additional information to
follow in our September e-Newsletter.

PARK AND RIDE LOTS |
Recently there has been concern over Park and Ride Lot capacity, specifically in
the Lodi and Lathrop areas. We understand the challenges associated with these
lots and are doing our best to address the issues. In 2007 the San Joaquin
Council of Governments (SJCOG) prepared a Park and Ride Lot Master Plan to
provide a long-range guide for developing the Park and Ride Lot system for San
Joaquin County. SJCOG is currently developing an implementation plan to identify
opportunities and set priorities in an attempt to prevent some of the issues we
are currently experiencing. Additional information will be provided to you as we
move forward with this process.
Many of the lot spaces are leased from
existing developments to provide a convenient option for commuters. The owners
of these lots have generously agreed to share the space under certain
conditions. The primary condition is that commuters park in designated areas. In
order to respect the primary purpose of the lot and not jeopardize the future of
the lease agreement, please park only in allotted areas which should be
clearly marked. Your dedication to ridesharing is very much appreciated. If you
have any questions or comments with regard to Park and Ride lots, please contact
Yvette Davis at (209) 468-3913 or
davis@sjcog.org.

EMPLOYER TIPS TO REDUCE HARMFUL AIR POLLUTION |
When
unhealthy air pollution levels are forecasted, the following is a list
of suggestions that employers can implement to reduce air pollution
through voluntary actions:
~ Encourage employees to telework, use public transportation or carpool.
~ Discourage lunch time driving excursions by forming brown bag lunches
and offering free
sodas and snacks, or offer discounted lunches if there is an
on-site
cafeteria.
~ Avoid driving to other offices for face-to-face meetings. Use
conference calls and video
conferences as alternatives.
~ Delay refueling vehicles and equipment until late afternoon or until
air quality improves.
~ Coordinate deliveries from your sites to eliminate multiple trips.
~ Turn off vehicles while loading and unloading.
~ Postpone lawn upkeep, or use electric lawn and garden equipment at
your work site.
~ Restrict or reduce the use of oil-based paints, solvents and cleaning
agents.
Pitch in and make a difference!
