COMMUTE CONNECTION'S GUARANTEED RIDE HOME PROGRAM |
Did you know that Commute Connection has a program that will pay for
your ride home in the event of an emergency? If you are registered in
the Guaranteed Ride Home Program, you work in San Joaquin or
Stanislaus Counties and you rideshare at least 60% of the
time, Commute Connection will pay for either a taxi or a rental car for
you to get home or to your desired destination at no cost to you!
That's right, the Guaranteed Ride Home Program
takes the fear out of ridesharing. You can even make a 10 minute stop if
you need to pick up a sick child at school or a prescription from a
pharmacy, etc. For additional information on the Guaranteed Ride Home
Program click

Teresa Garcia

California High-Speed Rail |
|
After more than a decade of hopes, dreams and planning, California's
high-speed train system is on a roll, propelled by a $9.9 billion bond
measure approved by the state's voters in November 2008 and most
recently by President Barak Obama's plan to jumpstart high-speed rail in
America with $8 billion in federal stimulus package dollars - plus $1
billion a year for at least five years in other federal funds. If the
funding momentum continues, fast trains operating as speeds of up to 220
miles per hour could be whisking passengers nonstop from the Central
Valley to downtown Los Angeles in under three hours by the
year 2020. For additional information on California High-Speed
Rail click

Bike to Work Week |
Bike to
work week was a huge success this year with over 200 commuters
registering for the event. Every year Commute Connection sponsors two
raffles for a bicycle and helmet. One winner is chosen from San
Joaquin County and the other is chosen from Stanislaus County. The participants
pledge to bike to work at least once during Bike to Work Week, which was
May 11th - 15th. The winners this year are Renee Lynn Kerr of San
Joaquin County and Sherri Rodrigues of Stanislaus County.
Congratulations to both winners and a special thanks to all commuters
who participated in the Bike to Work Week event. Bike to Work Week is a
national event which celebrates bicycle commuters and promotes an
environmentally friendly transportation option and also promotes clean
air.
In other Bike to Week news, a
special thanks to Stockton City Councilman Elbert H. Holman, Jr and
KJOY's Dirk Kooyman participated in the Bike vs Car Downtown
demonstration during the Downtown
Stockton Alliance's Bike Downtown Day. The alliance sponsored rides from
the Washington Mutual Plaza to various sites around downtown.
In Stanislaus County over 200 people
attended the Bike to Work Day event in Downtown Modesto to celebrate the
national event. Modesto Police Department escorted riders from different
locations to downtown Modesto where vendors provided breakfast,
refreshments, T-shirts and other prizes. For
