Riding a bike to work is an old trend with new benefits. As Americans become increasingly health conscious, they realize that bicycling is a viable commute option. Instead of going to the gym after work, try riding your bicycle to work. Riding a bike to work won't just make you healthier --it will also save you money. Did you know that cycling is one of the least expensive forms of transportation? It cost just pennies a day. With the increase cost of gas it is becoming increasingly a viable alternative. Some employers pay $20 per month to employees who bike to work.
Bike to Work Week was May 11th to the 15th, 2009. Commute Connection gave away two bicycles in two separate drawings to participants who pledged to bike or walk to work at least one day during that period. The winners are Renee Lynn Kerr from San Joaquin County and Sherri Rodrigues from Stanislaus County. Congratulations to both winners!

Bicycling is one of the least expensive ways to get to work, and
walking saves even more. More than half of all Americans live
less than five miles from where they work. The average annual
price of keeping an automobile running is at least $3,000. The
cost of running a bike for a year is less than $300. Enjoy the
savings. Walking and Bicycling is one of the best forms of cardiovascular
exercise. Personal fitness is improved without setting aside
additional time for exercise. Bicycling is the most efficient form of transportation.
Bikes are self-powered, quite, don’t eat gas, don’t release toxic fumes,
don’t drip car fluids, reduce road wear and
pollutants from the air we breathe. Bicycle commuters can leave behind congested roadways for a quiet
back street or a scenic bike path. Commute with a bike buddy
and make it fun and socially rewarding. More and more employers are struggling with limited parking.
Once at work, parking is usually a breeze for bike commuters.
